The short version

If you want to feel effective straight away, play a shooter — the feedback is immediate and satisfying. If aiming frustrates you, survival games remove it entirely and leave you with pure movement. If endless games feel discouraging, the escape category is the only one where you can genuinely finish something.

Defence games are the biggest mental adjustment, because the thing that must survive is not you. Runners are the easiest to pick up and the most punishing at speed. And casual arcade games are the shortest to learn and frequently the hardest to master.
