Zombie Hunter

Shooter Hard Mouse + WASD 3–7 minutes

Zombie Hunter is the hardest shooter on the site and the most explicitly strategic. Every zombie carries a visible countdown showing how many seconds until it reaches you. You will never have enough time to shoot all of them. The game is about choosing correctly, over and over, at speed.

Best Score: —

How to Play Zombie Hunter

  1. Press Start. Zombies spawn from the edges with a visible countdown above each one.
  2. Move with WASD to buy time — moving away from a group adds seconds to every countdown in it.
  3. Aim with the mouse and click to fire. Each shot has a short recovery window.
  4. Prioritise by countdown, not by distance. Red countdowns are under two seconds.
  5. Kills of urgent targets score more than kills of distant ones.

Objective

Survive as long as possible against a spawn rate that eventually exceeds your firing rate. Score comes from kills weighted by how urgent the target was.

About Zombie Hunter

Making time-to-contact visible changes the shooter genre completely. In most games you estimate threat from distance, which is a decent proxy but a wrong one: a fast runner at forty metres is more urgent than a brute at fifteen. Here that estimation step is removed and replaced with the actual number, which sounds like it would make the game easier. It does not. It just moves the difficulty from perception to decision-making.

Zombies come in five speed classes, and the countdowns update live as they move. A brute that loses its path around an obstacle will visibly gain seconds; a runner that finds a clear line will visibly lose them. Reading those changes as they happen — rather than re-evaluating the whole board every second — is what high scores actually require.

Your weapon fires quickly but each shot has a short recovery, so the throughput ceiling is fixed. That fixed ceiling is what makes the game hard: past a certain spawn rate, the correct play stops being 'kill everything' and becomes 'kill exactly the ones that matter and accept the rest are still coming'.

Zombie Hunter Tips & Strategy

  1. Shoot anything under two seconds immediately, even if it is behind you.
  2. Moving is a form of attack here — retreating from a cluster adds seconds to every countdown in it.
  3. Ignore anything above five seconds completely. It will still be there and it costs you nothing now.
  4. Brutes rarely need to be killed. They need to be delayed, and moving away does that for free.
  5. When three countdowns turn red at once you have already made a mistake; the recovery is to run, not to shoot faster.
  6. Score rewards urgency, so a hard shot at a two-second runner is worth more than an easy shot at a walker.

Zombie Hunter — FAQ

Why is Zombie Hunter rated Hard?
Because it never lets you clear the screen. Most shooters give you moments where the arena is empty; this one is tuned so the spawn rate eventually exceeds your firing rate, which means every run ends in a losing position and the skill is in delaying that.
What do the coloured countdowns mean?
Green is over five seconds away, amber is two to five seconds, red is under two seconds. The colours exist so you can triage with peripheral vision instead of reading numbers.
Should I ever shoot a brute?
Rarely. Brutes take multiple hits and move slowly, so shooting one costs you several shots you needed elsewhere. Moving away from a brute achieves the same delay for free.
Is this a good first game for a new player?
No — start with Zombie Blaster. Zombie Hunter assumes you already aim comfortably and want a decision-making challenge on top.
