Zombie Chase

Escape Hard WASD or joystick 1–4 minutes

Zombie Chase strips pursuit down to one relationship. There is you, and there is one zombie that will never stop, never lose track of you and never get tired. It starts slower than you. By your eighth checkpoint it is not.

Best Score: —

How to Play Zombie Chase

  1. Press Start. A single zombie begins pursuing you immediately.
  2. Move with WASD or the joystick. You start faster than the pursuer.
  3. Reach the glowing checkpoint marker to score. A new one appears elsewhere.
  4. Every checkpoint makes the pursuer permanently faster.
  5. Use obstacles and tight turns to force it to correct its path.

Objective

Reach as many checkpoints as possible. The pursuer speeds up with each one, and contact ends the run.

About Zombie Chase

The pursuer uses direct pursuit — it always heads straight at your current position rather than predicting where you will be. That single design choice makes the entire game learnable, because direct pursuit has a well-known weakness: it loses ground on every turn. A pursuer aiming at where you are must constantly correct, and each correction costs it distance.

This is why sharp turns are the core mechanic even though there is no turn button. Running in a straight line loses to a faster pursuer inevitably. Running in tight arcs, cutting close around obstacles, and reversing direction at the right moment can hold off a pursuer that is significantly faster than you.

Each checkpoint scores and speeds the pursuer up by a fixed increment. That creates a natural arc: early checkpoints are nearly free, middle checkpoints require good routing, and late checkpoints require you to actively use obstacles to force corrections. Most runs end between the ninth and twelfth.

Zombie Chase Tips & Strategy

  1. Turn sharply and often. Direct pursuers lose ground on every correction; straight lines lose to them.
  2. Cut close around obstacles. The pursuer takes the outside line and pays for it.
  3. Never run to a checkpoint in a straight line once the pursuer is faster than you — arc toward it.
  4. Reversing direction when the pursuer is close is counter-intuitive and extremely effective.
  5. Plan two checkpoints ahead. Reaching one while facing the wrong direction is how late runs die.
  6. The speed increase is permanent, so the run is a countdown. Bank checkpoints early rather than playing safe.

Features

  • A single relentless pursuer using direct pursuit
  • Speed increments tied to checkpoints, not to time
  • Obstacles that can be used to force pursuer corrections
  • A learnable weakness rather than an unwinnable chase
  • Score based purely on checkpoints reached

Zombie Chase — FAQ

Does the pursuer ever give up?
Never. It has no search behaviour and no loss-of-interest state — it heads directly for your position for the entire run.
Can I outrun it forever?
No. Each checkpoint makes it permanently faster, so it will eventually be faster than you. The skill is in how long you can keep making it correct its path after that point.
Why do tight turns work?
Because it aims at where you are, not where you will be. Every turn you make forces it to change direction, and changing direction costs it distance.
Is there more than one pursuer?
No, and that is the point — one pursuer whose behaviour you can fully learn. If you want crowds, Zombie Swarm is the opposite experience.

Arcade enemies follow a small number of behaviours. Learning to name them turns constant reaction into occasional confirmation.

How Reaction Time Affects Zombie Games

Raw reaction speed matters far less than players assume. What actually limits you is recognition time — and unlike reaction, that can be trained substantially.
